The wrestling world is in mourning following the tragic death of WWE legend Sika Anoa’i.

Anoa’i is said to have died on Tuesday, June 25, at the age of 79.

According to ESPN, the Anoa’i family tree is one of the most iconic in wrestling history.

His death has since been confirmed by Reigns, one of Anoa’i’s sons, with the wrestler going to X to mourn his father.

In his afterthe 39-year-old described his late father as a mentor who “had a profound impact on my entire family.”

“My family and I would like to thank everyone for the support on behalf of my father, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’i, who will forever be remembered as one half of The Wild Samoans tag team,” he wrote.

“My father had a profound impact on my entire family and we are forever grateful for the foundation he laid for us. There is no way to fill the void left by his passing, but my sisters and I will do our best to represent him and his legacy. Rest in Power Dad, we love you,” he added.

Sika Anoa’i’s wrestling career

The 79-year-old began his wrestling career in the late 1970s and continued for decades.

Bleacher reported at the time that he teamed up with his brother Afa to form the iconic ‘Wild Samoans’.

Their fearsome team became a major force in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Wild Samoans went on to capture the WWF World Tag Team Championship no fewer than three times.

Their legacy was cemented when they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
