Tony Khan – ‘Shane McMahon is always welcome at AEW’

AEW President Tony Khan has heard rumors that Shane McMahon may be interested in joining All Elite Wrestling, and he says the son of disgraced former WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon “always welcome” appear in his company.

Speak with Sports illustrated Justin Barrasso, Khan commented on the Shane McMahon and AEW rumors, the ongoing media rights negotiations, tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite and more.

Below you can watch some highlights from the interview:

On the rumor of Shane McMahon’s interest in appearing in AEW: “I heard a rumor that he might be interested. I’ve never met Shane, but we have a lot of mutual friends. I have a lot of respect for him as an executive and as a professional wrestler. Shane is always welcome at AEW.”

On recent discussions with Warner Bros. Discovery regarding the renewal of AEW’s media rights: “We are having great conversations with Warner Bros. Discovery. I have a great relationship with (Warner Bros. Discovery CEO) Mr. David Zaslav. We are fortunate to work with him and his team. It’s a very strong relationship and I had a great conversation with their leadership team this week.”

On Shaquille O’Neal possibly appearing again in AEW: “I would love to have Shaq back in AEW as soon as he is available. He is one of the greatest basketball players of all time, and he is extremely talented in a number of roles. Shaq is also the greatest famous wrestler in wrestling history. But what people didn’t see is what happened backstage. When he wrestled in AEW, he would go around backstage and show respect to all the wrestlers. He told the wrestlers, “I want you to look good.” It was incredible. That’s the most recognizable athlete in the world doing that.”

On both Shaq and Sting being undefeated in AEW: “We had Shaq and Sting in AEW at the same time, and both are still undefeated. Shaq is totally first class. We are fortunate to be under the same corporate umbrella at TNT and we would love to welcome him back.”

On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Buffalo: “It’s a stacked card for Dynamite in Buffalo tonight. We have Jon Moxley, the most decorated man ever in wrestling – he was AEW World Champion, WWE World Champion, and he is now IWGP World Heavyweight Champion in New Japan Pro-Wrestling – and he will be teaming with Claudio Castagnoli against Hiromu Takahashi, Titan and Shingo Takagi. Shingo will wrestle Bryan Danielson at Forbidden Door, and Bryan will provide commentary for the match.

“We also get a chance to hear from Mercedes Moné, who defends the TBS title at Forbidden Door against New Japan Strong champion Stephanie Vaquer in a title-for-title match. That will be incredible. Mercedes is one of the biggest free agent signings in the history of professional wrestling, one of the most important signings ever in the history of AEW.
