The 2024 All-Area Softball team consists of players nominated by area coaches and selected by the Battle Creek Enquirer

They represent the best softball players in the region.

The annual All-Area team is made up of players from the non-city schools in the Enquirer’s 23-district coverage area.

Tess Barnebee

The Seagull Lake

Tess Barnebee, a senior shortstop, was a leader in the infield for Gull Lake as she displayed a good glove and a strong arm with an .850 fielding percentage and 63 assists. Barnebee was also a key part of the Blue Devil lineup posting a .400 batting average with 34 RBI and 28 runs and helping the Blue Devils to a 22-13 overall record. She will play at Oklahoma Wesleyan next season.

Brooke Carden

Marshall

Brooke Carden, a rising prospect as a sophomore, helped Marshall to an Interstate 8 Conference national title and a district crown as the Redhawks were 28-6 overall. Carden earned all-league honors as an infielder, batting .509 with 57 hits, including 14 doubles and nine triples, along with 51 RBI and 41 runs scored.

Ava Coffinger

The Seagull Lake

Ava Coffinger, a senior, is a returning member of the Enquirer All-Area team and will play at Michigan State University next year. Coffinger broke the state record for consecutive stolen bases and is among the state’s leaders in career stolen bases, hits and runs. She finished her senior year with a .554 batting average with 67 hits and 57 stolen bases and 51 runs. The athletic outfielder also earned all-league, all-region and all-state accolades while helping the Blue Devils to a 22-13 overall record.

Maren DeBeau

Cold water

Maren DeBeau played a very competitive schedule and was a standout on a 13-22 Coldwater team as the third baseman led the Cardinals in hitting from her leadoff spot. DeBeau hit .538 with a .591 on-base percentage with 45 runs scored and nine stolen bases, earning all-league honors.

Ashlynn Harris

Bronson

Ashlynn Harris returned to the Enquirer All-Area team as a sophomore pitcher/infielder and helped Bronson to a 29-10 record and a district title. Harris earned all-league, all-district and all-region honors. Harris led the Vikings with a batting average of .527 with an impressive slugging percentage of .760, with 11 triples and eight doubles with 53 runs scored. She showed good speed and also had 26 stolen bases. In the circle, Harris was 16-6 with 149 strikeouts in 124 innings with a 1.97 ERA.

Jaicey Harty

The Seagull Lake

Jaicey Harty, a sophomore two-way player, was a force both as a pitcher and at the plate. Harty returns to the Enquirer All-Area team with a .426 batting average with 34 RBI and 35 runs scored. In the circle, Harty went 8-7 with a 2.378 ERA and 92 strikeouts. Harty earned all-league and all-district honors and helped the Blue Devils to a 22-13 overall record.

Reagan Henry

Tekonsha

As a junior, Reagan Henry once again earned an Enquirer All-Area selection as she was the best hitter and best defensive player on a Tekonsha team that went 4-13 overall. Henry led the team in batting average, runs scored and slugging percentage, hitting .513 with 16 stolen bases. As a catcher, she showed strong defensive skills and had a .962 fielding percentage, earning all-league honors.

Emmalie Hirst

Marshall

Emmalie Hirst, a returning member of the Enquirer All-Area team, again dominated as a pitcher with a 15-3 record with 149 strikeouts in 101 innings, contributing to a 2.07 ERA. Hirst also earned all-league honors with a .371 batting average and 39 runs scored and helped Marshall to an Interstate 8 Conference league title and a district crown as the Redhawks were 28-6 overall.

Brielle Kelly

Marshall

Brielle Kelly impressed on the varsity as a sophomore, helping Marshall to an Interstate 8 Conference national title and a district crown as the Redhawks were 28-6 overall. Kelly earned all-league honors as a shortstop, hitting .459 with 51 hits, including 12 doubles and two home runs, along with 37 RBI and 56 runs scored.

Mallory Kincaid

Athens

Mallory Kincaid, an athletic shortstop, became a leader as a sophomore on a young Athens team as the Indians went 13-11 overall. Kincaid hit .437 at the plate. On defense, she showed a strong arm and had a .907 fielding percentage, earning all-league honors.

Brealyn Lasky

Bronson

Brealyn Lasky, a returning member of the Enquirer All-Area team, helped Bronson to a 29-10 record and a district title. Lasky earned all-league, district and regional honors as a senior. Lasky finished with a .444 batting average with a .564 slugging percentage, along with a team-high 43 RBI and 30 runs scored. She was also impressive in the field, posting a .957 fielding percentage.

Kennedy Miller

Homer

Kennedy Miller makes a return trip to the Enquirer All-Area team as she helped Homer to its first district title since 2013 and first 30-win season since 2006. Miller is a three-time all-league pick with 51 career home runs. making her fifth all-time in the state. She also holds school records in career and single-season hits. As a junior this year, Miller hit .615 with 17 home runs and 78 RBI and 34 stolen bases. Next year she will play at Central Michigan University.

Lani Molenaar

Homer

With a breakout season as a freshman, Lani Miller helped Homer to its first district title since 2013 and its first 30-win season since 2006. Miller hit cleanup for the Trojans in her first year on varsity, finishing with a .513 batting average with 63 RBI and five home runs to go long with 27 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. The catcher earned all-league honors and finished second all-time at the school in RBI in a single season.

Payten Minix

Homer

Despite missing time as a pitcher for much of the last month, Payten Minix still had a standout season as she helped Homer to its first district title since 2013 and first 30-win season since 2006. Minix, a sophomore, was 22 -4 from the mound, with a 1.85 ERA and 197 strikeouts in 135 innings. At the plate, she hit .403 with 20 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

Kamryn Parlin

Athens

Kamryn Parlin was named all-state as a catcher a year ago and switched to pitcher this season due to the team’s needs, helping a young Athens team to a 13-11 record. As a pitcher, Parlin had 148 strikeouts from the circle. At the plate, the senior hit .557 with 12 doubles and five home runs, earning All-League honors and a return trip to the Enquirer All-Area team.

Aislynn Phelps

Union city

Senior Aislynn Phelps was a standout on a young team struggling for wins. Phelps hit .444 with 32 hits, including four triples. Phelps, leader of the infield, was a defensive force behind the plate at catcher.

Kara Priddy

Olive

Kara Priddy, a senior shortstop, was a leader on and off the field as she was selected to her third all-conference team and is a returning member of the Enquirer All-Area team. Priddy hit .423, hitting leadoff for the Eagles and finishing with 23 runs scored and 23 stolen bases for a young club that started five freshmen and went 8-20-1.

Bella Ryan

Marshall

Bella Ryan, a rising prospect as a sophomore, helped Marshall to an Interstate 8 Conference national title and a district crown as the Redhawks were 28-6 overall. Ryan earned all-league honors as an outfielder, hitting .539 with eight doubles and four home runs, along with 27 RBI and 33 runs scored.

Isabella Strader

Olive

Isabella Strader, the standout member of the Olivet staff, is making a return trip to the Enquirer All-Area team and has been named to the all-conference team three times. The senior pitcher had 151 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit .600 with 32 RBI for a young club that started five freshmen and went 8-20-1.

Rylie VanAken

Cold water

Rylie VanAken played a very competitive schedule and was a standout on a 13-22 Coldwater team as the shortstop provided the punch for the Cardinals’ lineup. VanAken hit .469 with an .816 slugging percentage with 33 runs scored and 39 RBI to go along with four home runs, earning all-league honors.

Lydia Wells

Bronson

Lydia Wells stepped up as a sophomore catcher and helped Bronson to a 29-10 record and a district title. Wells earned all-league, all-district and all-region honors. A key part of the Viking lineup, Wells hit .432 with 36 RBI and 43 runs with 11 doubles and 23 stolen bases.
