Illinois football field subsides after mine collapse

Like something straight out of a science fiction movie, a viral video of the Illinois football field sinkhole has captured the attention of people everywhere.

On Wednesday morning, a soccer field in Alton, Illinois, collapsed after a mine beneath the park collapsed.

Security camera footage shows the shocking moment a 30-foot hole opens in the field.

The fields were above a limestone mine. New Frontier Materials, the mine operator, attributed the shocking moment to a “surface subsidence,” according to local news.
