Great – Dick Vitale has defeated cancer again, undergone vocal cord surgery and expects to call college basketball games this year

Of course. For those who may have forgotten or didn’t know, Dickie V has been battling a number of different types of cancer and has once again made a fool of herself. Now he expects to play matches again this year after being sidelined due to vocal cord cancer. Look, I don’t care what you think about Dickie V, the announcer, he’s as good of college basketball as anyone. He’s been around our college basketball world my whole life. He was the guy who had the big game voice, especially ACC games, when I was growing up in the 1990s. You couldn’t see Tim Duncan or Randolph Childress without Dickie V.

I said this not so long ago. It sucks to see guys we know and grew up leaving the game. I know it happens with age, but it really hits home when it’s a man you’ve watched or listened to all your life. Dickie V has to go his own way. Not because of this bullshit disease he keeps beating. Not because of health problems. Dickie V earned the right to call off another season, even if it’s just one game, and decide to suspend it if he wants. He’s one of the guys who deserves a retirement tour.

However, I have nothing but respect for Vitale for what he has done to help the fight against childhood cancer. It is remarkable. Another reason why I love that he posts a video of his doctor telling him it looks good.

Do you think he’ll miss a Vandy/Georgia game? I do not think so. The man gets a call.

As always, fuck cancer.
