Five dead in Kenya after protest against financing law

At least five people were shot dead after Kenyan police fired live rounds at protesters in Nairobi over a controversial funding bill that has sparked widespread protests.

Among the demonstrators was Auma Obama, the half-sister of former US President Barack Obama, who was tear gassed by police.

The Kenyan parliament was set on fire when protesters stormed the building where the ceremonial mace was also stolen.

The country is in the grip of nationwide protests against proposed tax increases, which quickly turned violent.
